The latest promo for Deadpool & Wolverine teases a pretty big cameo that’s sparked a heated debate online that involves a pair of disembodied legs (who says the internet is “bad” for women?) and Taylor Swift.

While she was previously teased in an another clip, the latest Deadpool & Wolverine TV spot gives a fuller look at Lady Deadpool, leading to rampant speculation online. You can see her at around the 11-second mark in the teaser below:

It’s been almost 10 years since NBC aired the series finale of Hannibal, and in the time since, not a month has gone by that I haven’t heard or read these words from someone on the internet (myself included): I miss Hannibal. Unlike most of the internet, however, I seem to be among the few people sensible enough to recognize Hannibal‘s successor.

All of which is to say: Not nearly enough people are watching—and talking about—Interview With the Vampire. AMC’s adaptation of the Anne Rice novel, and the first title in its Immortal Universe (a collection of series based on Rice’s vampire and witch novels), is in the midst of airing its second season. And yet, week to week, I hear next to nothing about what is arguably the best show currently airing on TV. It’s definitely the hottest, best looking, goth-iest, and gayest show on TV—four quadrants I didn’t know could be hit this hard simultaneously.

House of the Dragon made its long-awaited return to HBO (and Max) with the season 2 premiere, “A Son for a Son.” The episode culminates in an extremely tense sequence that pays off the title of the episode in the most upsetting way possible—but that’s not the scene that’s pissing people off.

Fans aren’t tuning in to House of the Dragon for the cuddly dragons or cutesy nepo babies. We know what we’re getting when we come to Westeros: senseless violence, centuries-long feuds and even longer grudges, and the occasional inappropriate smooch between family relations. You might even say that these are all reasons to watch House of the Dragon and its predecessor, Game of Thrones. Set in a sprawling fictional realm inspired by medieval fantasy, the franchise and its source material often revel in the sort of violence and creative torture (usually involving rats, no?) typically associated with the pre-enlightenment era.

The Boys is officially back with a new season filled with gratuitous violence, gore, and gaping, uh, you know. The first three episodes of season 4 dropped late last week, and while everyone on god’s green internet is preoccupied with the “Human Centipede sauna scene,” I found myself more disturbed by another revealing moment.

I know where I am—I can’t name-drop something like “Human Centipede sauna scene” without explaining it, so for the blessedly unaware but still morbidly curious: In episode 2, the eponymous Boys are investigating new season 4 antagonist Firecracker (sort of a knock-off Stormfront) and tailing a Supe named Splinter to get more info. Splinter (Rob Benedict, who will probably be answering questions about this scene for the rest of his life) can produce clones of himself, and those of you wondering how this might influence his masturbation habits are on the right track. Our guys follow Splinter to a sauna, where several clones are arranged in an elaborate ass-to-mouth chain, each masturbating while eating another clone’s butt. It’s the sort of shocking, edgelordian sexual imagery that’s become synonymous with The Boys, made all the more jarring by the sheer amount of saliva on screen.

You might be a little confused by all the Disney Saw memes going around on social media. No, the House of Mouse didn’t buy the rights to the Saw franchise, but I kind of wish they would so we could finally get a Jigsaw Babies animated prequel series.

The truth is much simpler: Now that Disney+ has absorbed the Hulu library, all the movies and shows you can watch on Hulu are also available through the Disney+ app—for users who subscribe to the Disney+ bundle with Hulu, anyway. And since the first seven Saw movies are streaming on Hulu right now, that means you can stream the first seven Saw movies on Disney+.

I saw Strange Darling at last year’s Fantastic Fest and walked away feeling like I had just received a big secret I could only share with other people in the audience. JT Mollner’s directorial debut stars Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner as two people hooking up for a one-night stand—and that’s the only plot description anyone can give without tipping the film’s hand. You probably shouldn’t watch the trailer for Strange Darling—heed the endorsement from Mike Flanagan, who’s quoted in the trailer—but I will say that Miramax did a pretty solid job with this one, which doesn’t show too much:

To say that Splice underperformed at the box office when it was released in 2010 would be an understatement. But that’s what happens when you carelessly release a psychosexual sci-fi horror movie about a genetically engineered human-animal hybrid in the middle of the summer.

Which is exactly what Warner Bros. did on June 4, 2010, when the studio dropped Splice in theaters nationwide during a movie season typically dominated by blockbusters—not exactly prime real estate for a mid-budget genre film with splashy creature effects. Splice emerged from its opening weekend in eighth place, obliterated by the fourth Shrek movie (in its third week, no less) and fellow new releases The Killers (that’s the one with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl) and Get Him to the Greek (an absolutely cursed film). Splice deserved so much better.

If you haven’t memory-holed everything that happened in 2020 and 2021, you might recall that the IRS sent a couple of stimulus checks out to Americans to help alleviate financial stress at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rumor has it the IRS is about to cut everyone another fat check.

In April 2020, the IRS and the U.S. Treasury sent the first round of stimulus checks intended to ease financial burdens associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals received up to $1200 and an additional check for up to $500 for each child. At the end of December, another round of checks went out, with individuals receiving up to $600. A third and final round of stimmies went out in March 2021, with individuals receiving up to $1400. These relatively small payments were intended to make it easier to deal with rising costs due to inflation, as corporations capitalized on the pandemic to drive up prices. Several corporations, including Amazon, Microsoft, and delivery providers like UPS and FedEx, have continued to post massive profits while laying off scores of employees and refusing to increase wages.

With an irresistible leading man and surprising moments of cerebral self-awareness, Richard Linklater’s Hit Man is a supremely enjoyable movie—the kind of movie Nicole Kidman could point to and say, this is why we come to this place. And yet for all its entertainment value, there’s one thing about Hit Man I simply cannot get over.

Powell effortlessly performs his duties as Hollywood’s new favorite leading man in Linklater’s latest, which Powell also co-wrote, loosely based on the true story of Gary Johnson, a college professor who helps local cops catch would-be murderers by posing as a hit man. Like some of Linklater’s best films, Hit Man is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and Linklater remains one of the few filmmakers capable of earnestly spelling out his film’s themes and ideas through otherwise tired tropes. There’s a near-metatextual utility to scenes in which Gary waxes philosophically about identity and the human capacity for change, occasionally while standing in front of a chalkboard and encouraging students to engage with what are ultimately the thematic underpinnings of the entire film.

Hunger Games fans are staying well-fed today with news of a new prequel novel from author Suzanne Collins and an accompanying film adaptation, both centering on Haymitch Abernathy—Katniss and Peeta’s mentor, played by Woody Harrelson in the Hunger Games movies.

The new prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, is set during the 50th Hunger Games, a.k.a. the Second Quarter Quell, when twice as many tributes were reaped from each district. As we learned in the previous books and movies, Haymitch Abernathy was 40 years old during the 74th Hunger Games, the first game to produce two victors: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. We actually know a surprising amount about Haymitch’s past: He was 16 when he was reaped from District 12 to compete in the Second Quarter Quell, leaving behind a mother, a brother, and a girlfriend. After slaughtering most of his competition at the cornucopia in an infamous bloodbath, Haymitch formed an alliance with fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, who ultimately died, leaving Haymitch to duke it out with the only other survivor, a female career tribute from District 1.
